On November 13, 2020, L. Lin Wood Jr. sued Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and members of the State Election Board in the Northern District of Georgia, Wood v. Raffensperger, No. 1:20-cv-04651-SDG. He sued as a Georgia voter. He asked the court to stop certification of the general-election results and to change recount and absentee procedures. Just the News quoted his own post that day: he had filed “to establish that the March 6, 2020 Consent Agreement by the GA Secretary of State rendered UNLAWFUL the 11/3 GA general election,” and “I am right under established law.”
U.S. District Judge Steven D. Grimberg denied emergency relief. The published district opinion is 501 F. Supp. 3d 1310 (N.D. Ga. 2020). On December 5, 2020, the Eleventh Circuit affirmed, 981 F.3d 1307. Chief Judge William Pryor, writing for a three-judge panel, held that Wood lacked Article III standing because he alleged only a generalized grievance, and that requests aimed at the already-certified 2020 results were moot. The court said federal courts “may not entertain post-election contests about garden-variety issues of vote counting and misconduct that may properly be filed in state courts.” That is the holding. It is not omitted here.
On December 18, 2020, Wood filed again, No. 1:20-cv-05155-TCB, seeking to halt the January 5, 2021, Senate runoff. On December 28, Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr., denied a temporary restraining order and closed the case for lack of standing. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted the order’s view that claims of potential fraud were “too speculative.” The Federal Judicial Center’s later case study notes the Eleventh Circuit, on August 6, 2021, again held he lacked standing. Epoch Times reported a December 30, 2020, emergency petition to the Supreme Court after the Batten denial.
Wood’s name also appeared as “Of Counsel” on the Michigan complaint in King v. Whitmer, E.D. Mich. No. 20-13134. That suit lost. On August 25, 2021, Judge Linda V. Parker sanctioned the lawyers, 556 F. Supp. 3d 680, calling the filing “a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process.” At the July 12, 2021, hearing Wood said he had not drafted the complaint and had not given permission for his name to be included. The court sanctioned him anyway. Associated Press later recorded his account that he had told Sidney Powell he would be available as a trial lawyer if needed.
Fox News reported that Wood and Sidney Powell urged Georgians not to vote in the Senate runoffs unless officials addressed their fraud claims. That public stand is part of the 2020 record. It is not rewritten as a win. The Georgia cases he signed as plaintiff failed on standing, timing, and mootness as the judges wrote those words.
